Simulator Apprentice

Level 3 Engineering Technician (Technical Support or Aviation pathway)

What you will be doing:

As a Simulator Apprentice you will support our engineers to maintain, service and support the Synthetic Training Equipment and classroom equipment at RAF Brize Norton.

Key responsibilities will be to:

Maintain and refresh training and classroom equipment

Follow procedures and working instructions to conduct all maintenance activities, and to carry out corrective fault rectifications to ensure training equipment is ready for use

Ensure that all maintenance activities / fault repairs are recorded and are trackable

Carry out audits and be accountable for the continued serviceability of tools, parts & consumables

Complete Hardware and Software updates and upgrades to ensure optimal equipment performance.

Keep all classrooms and classroom equipment in a clean & presentable manner.

Ensure support is provided to the RAF in performing the annual validation checks

Assist in the maintenance of the site facility building.

Be able to conduct all task within the site appropriate Health & Safety guidelines

The Programme:

As a Simulator Apprentice, you will undertake a Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship at a local college, working towards a Level 3 technical certificate.

For the duration of this 3-4 year programme, you will be given one day per week to complete your academic studies, with the other four days applying your learning whilst working alongside Thales engineers.

This opportunity is at RAF Brize Norton.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed and keen to learn. A self-starter who is able to manage their time, show initiative and has a genuine interest in Thales. Successful candidates will show self-discipline and an aspiration to achieve the qualification.

Candidates would benefit from strong IT skills and an understanding of Microsoft Office environments. Keen fault-finding skills and a high attention to detail would also be advantageous.

You will also need:

5 GCSEs grade A-C or Level 4-9, including Maths and English.

Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the programme.

Please note, assessment centres for shortlisted candidates will be held between February and May 2024. Induction week for all Graduate and Apprentices will run from Monday 2 September until Friday 6 September 2024.

To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks. As part of the vetting process you will be asked to provide evidence of your identity, eligibility to work in the UK, time spent abroad over the last 5 years, as well as employment and / or educational history.
