About the role

Working as part of a team of multi skilled technicians, the postholder provides high quality support for teaching and research in the Faculty of Engineering and Design. The successful applicant should have some experience of laser cutting, CNC routing, 3D printing and relevant CADCAM software packages as applied to architectural modelling.

A large part of the role will involve using knowledge and experience to advise students and other stakeholders, including researchers, to aid them in the development of design briefs and subsequent construction and completion of their projects. An interest or experience in creating architectural models would be beneficial. 

The team is responsible for ensuring a safe environment for students and colleagues while contributing to the teaching and supervision of students during laboratory sessions and project activities. Although primarily supporting the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, the postholder will have the opportunity to contribute to the teaching and research activities delivered across the whole Faculty. 

This is an entry level role and as such, hands-on training is provided to ensure the postholder develops high level technical skills alongside in-depth discipline-specific knowledge. 

The post holder will be required to operate as part of a highly skilled team to provide technical support, advice & guidance to a range of stakeholders. Manufacture of laser cut and 3D printed parts, as well as supporting undergraduate teaching activities and project work, make up a key part of this role.

The main duties of this role are to support academic and teaching activities by providing software and hardware support for 3D Printing, CAD-CAM and CNC routing, teaching and research related work, including supporting students, researchers and other technical staff
