FTE: 1 FTE (working 37 hours per week)
Salary: UH8 £44,263pa with potential to progress to £56,021pa on achieving designated skills and experience
Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
Location: de Havilland campus, Hatfield
This is an exciting opportunity to work in an established team of in-sessional Academic English for Business (AEB) tutors supporting UH students who need to improve their Academic English/study skills.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Academic English for Business (AEB) Senior Lecturer will work collaboratively with colleagues in Hertfordshire Business School to help support the ongoing expansion of programmes at postgraduate and undergraduate level. This role offers the chance to be a part of an innovative academic support team, playing a significant role in innovating on-campus and online teaching at the University of Hertfordshire.
The AEB Tutor will also be expected to work closely with the Centre for Academic Skills (CASE) to provide HBS students with expert support in English Language, and they will support students on a one-to-one basis and through seminars or workshop sessions. They will also be expected to contribute to high-quality instructional courses, videos and/or guides.
Skills and experience required
The successful candidate will have an interest in and knowledge of teaching English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP). They will have experience of teaching EAP/ESAP to undergraduate and/or postgraduate business students. They will have a strong commitment to technology and enhanced learning and be able to enhance our current approach to providing formative feedback as well as testing/materials/course design. They will have a good understanding and preferably experience of CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), CEM (Contextualisation, Embedding and Mapping) or other embedded and integrated subject-field-specific approaches to EAP/ESAP. They will be able to effectively integrate the language provision across many programmes in a number of contexts and undertake practice-based research that enhances pedagogy.
Qualifications required
A minimum of an Honours degree (or equivalent level qualification) is mandatory, as well as either a:
- Recognised EAP/EFL teaching qualification at Masters level, e.g. Cambridge ESOL DELTA, DipTESOL plus relevant in-sessional EAP experience
AND/OR
- Masters in TESOL, Applied Linguistics or equivalent plus relevant in-sessional EAP experience
A fellowship of HEA would be preferred.
