Job description: Actemium Design (formerly North West Projects) is a national Engineering design company with a Nuclear sector focus. The ideal candidate will have CE&I experience within the Nuclear sector.

The Role
- Quality of assigned deliverables.
- Compliance of the projects’ engineering deliverables with specified requirements, codes, standards, and procedures (including quality and security).
- Ensuring all customer technical requirements are attained.
- Technical integrity and development of safe, legally compliant engineering solutions verifying and validating that they satisfy the project requirements.
- Collate, document and review requirements from works information and disseminate these requirements clearly to the parties that will contribute to the solution.
- Planning and executing engineering and design activities. Ensuring projects are delivered within approved budgets and scheduled completion dates.
- Production of design quality plans and ensuring work is undertaken in accordance with relevant quality arrangements.
- Collaboration with the Project Manager in the generation and maintenance of detailed project plans and deliverable schedules.
- Identifies resource requirements and requests resources as required.
- Reporting progress of engineering deliverables against specified work plans.
- Source ideas and innovation from multiple sources and proactively generate value adding options to achieve the optimum engineered solution.
- Identify applicable legislation and ensure compliance.
- Production of engineering documentation to influence and provide evidence of the design process.
- Develop technical specifications that define the totality of requirements for engineering solutions.
- Assess the specific elements that contribute to the equipment design and document justification / arguments which substantiate it.
- Production of detailed calculations to establish sizing, specification, or rating of components.
- Conduct risk assessments, identify, evaluate and mitigate hazards by design. o Ensure configuration of baseline of deliverables is accurately maintained.
- Ensure work under their supervision is consistent in the use of software tools, deliverable protocols, formats, templates, numbering, and storage.
- Support the production of technical information in tenders.
- Be the key point of contact with customer stakeholders and build collaborative relationships.
- Identifying the requirements for, and organising and undertaking of design reviews.
Profile
The Person
- Degree with honours or level 6 equivalent (Ideally)
- Chartered Engineer or equivalent.
- Several years’ experience working in design engineering.
- A number of years’ experience working within a highly regulated industry (e.g. Nuclear)
- Proficient in the use of standard Microsoft Office software such as Word / Excel.
- Competent in the use CAD software / digital tools. Understands and can apply the company management system.
- Understands and can apply design codes, standards, and procedures.
- Understands and can apply law (Acts and Regulations), codes of practice and designated standards appropriate to scope of work.
- Breadth of demonstrable experience of design and detailing (appropriate to discipline) of plant and equipment.
- Understands the NEC suite of contracts, change control methodology and common project management practices.
- Breadth of experience of respective discipline (e.g. Mechanical or Electrical). Demonstrable capability of supervision for a small team of engineers and designers (up to 15 but frequently less) in the definition, implementation, and delivery of engineering work packages.
- Commercial understanding, budgeting & cost control, reporting practices.
- Prepare and maintain schedules for activities and events, taking account of dependencies and resource requirements.
- Provide leadership within an engineering department and act as a custodian of resource and expertise.
