Project description:

The Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics of the University of Southampton is welcoming applications for PhD scholarships in the field of composite materials and structures. The research will encompass a range of topics including polymers and polymer-based composites, smart and functional nano composites, bio-inspired composites, and the structural utilization and monitoring of these materials. The focus lies in exploring, characterizing, and enhancing the resilience of composite materials in extreme dynamic conditions, pioneering novel material architectures for the forthcoming low carbon aerospace industry, and creating intelligent sensors and techniques for structural health monitoring in aerospace applications. The research will be conducted within the materials division of the department, offering students the opportunity to work in a collaborative and stimulating environment. Scholars will have access to state-of-the-art facilities across the University, ensuring they have the necessary resources to conduct high-quality research.

Entry Requirements

A very good undergraduate degree (at least a UK 2:1 honours degree, or its international equivalent).

Funding: For UK students, Tuition Fees and a stipend of £18,198 tax-free per annum for up to 3.5 years.
