What you will do as a Practice Lead

The role will involve providing leadership of our UK Air Quality Practice which specialises in resolving environmental air quality and odour issues for our clients. The role will involve providing technical expertise and quality assurance across a wide variety of projects, supporting and leading proposals, profile raising and promoting links with professional bodies. The role does not comprise direct line management, however would involve assisting with resourcing, training and development.

We collaborate with our clients and colleagues on projects in all our markets, including aviation, energy, buildings, maritime, industry and urban development. We work either as part of a multidisciplinary team or direct to external clients in the UK and internationally. We specialise in consenting, permitting and licencing support for complex infrastructure developments and operations. The role would also have opportunities to contribute to our rapidly-developing greenhouse gas consultancy, where we advise clients on carbon foot-printing, decarbonisation and Net Zero compliant strategies, serving clients in the port, shipping, aviation and industrial sectors.

A selection of projects we have worked on includes:

  • Several successfully consented Development Consent Order (DCO) projects in the renewable energy sector;
  • Energy from Waste DCO;
  • Air Quality Strategies for UK Ports;
  • Decarbonisation strategy & Technology optioneering for major UK drinks manufacturer; and
  • Extensive dispersion modelling studies of Middle Eastern oil & gas refinery.

Our Air Quality Practice sits in our ‘Environment, Engineering and Resilience’ Group of approximately 200 staff, which has been providing environmental solutions for our clients for over 35 years in the UK. We offer a comprehensive range of environmental services to support all sizes and types of development. From high profile infrastructure projects such as Dogger Bank Wind Farm, the Woodsmith Crop Nutrients Mine, and Sizewell C Nuclear Power Station, to carbon management, climate resilience, industrial and transportation projects. We combine market-leading technical excellence, across the range of environmental disciplines, with a clear understanding of clients’ ambitions, needs and pressures.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to take up the post of Practice Lead for the Air Quality Practice. The Team provides technical advisory services internally across the entire RHDHV family of companies and externally to individual clients, including contributions to projects in transportation, offshore and onshore wind farms, industrial, waste management, port development & operations and marine engineering sectors. We also have a rapidly growing portfolio of clients and projects in the field of carbon reduction and Net Zero strategies.

Locations: Peterborough, London, Edinburgh, Exeter, Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester, Brighton.

What you bring

  • Exemplary air quality technical skills from desk studies and dispersion modelling, to emissions management and control experience;
  • Solid understanding of legislative and other drivers, including industry best practice and the EIA process, which form the framework within which air quality work is carried out;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organisational, analytical and time management skills;
  • Exceptional network across relevant industry sectors, including both clients and relevant regulators;
