The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and efficacy of veterinary medicines in the UK.
We have a Fixed Term Appointment until 3 August 2026 as an Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Co-ordinator.
This exciting and interesting job puts you at the heart of the VMD’s antimicrobial resistance (AMR) policy and surveillance team, as you deliver on the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs’ (Defra) commitments in the UK 5-year national action plan (NAP) for AMR, which supports the UK’s 20-year vision.
Understanding AMR through surveillance is a key foundation of the UK’s AMR strategy. The AMR Surveillance & Evidence Team at the VMD delivers the UK’s programmes of AMR surveillance in animals. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the team to cover a period of maternity leave.
We welcome applications from those with proven scientific experience (biological, medical, or veterinary) gained via a formal qualification or through relevant work experience.
We require some experience in or awareness of, or a demonstrable ability to get up to speed rapidly in:
- the principles of antimicrobial resistance
- collaboration and delivering in partnership
- good scientific writing and/or data analysis
- good organisational ability
You must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 365 packages, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook, can navigate the internet and learn to use Sharepoint.
