The Local Government Association (LGA) is the national membership body for local authorities. We work on behalf of our member councils to support, promote and improve local government.

We are a politically led, cross-party organisation that works on behalf of councils to ensure local government has a strong, credible voice with national government. We influence and set the political agenda on the issues that matter to councils to help them deliver local solutions to national problems.

We also provide councils with the tools and resources to respond to challenges present and emerging, and support improvement across the sector.

About the role

Two exciting opportunities have arisen for Assistant Management Accountants who are highly driven, enthusiastic, and self-motivated, to become part of the expanding Strategic Finance team.

The successful candidates will be responsible for assisting in all the LGA’s management accounts processes, including month end processes, budgeting and forecasting, and ad hoc reporting, all delivered through effective business partnering.

We work flexibly, with two days per week in the office. One of the roles could be suitable for part-time working, by arrangement.

Previous experience of working with Charity accounts (Charity SORP) and/or Properties (including investment properties) is essential.

You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.

  • Experience of working with Charities and accounts prepared under the Charity SORP (1 role)
  • Experience of working with properties (fixed assets and investment property assets) preferred (1 role)
  • Experience of working in a customer focus environment that enables managers to take responsibility of their financial accountabilities
  • Experience of the financial management and production of comprehensive reports (e.g. statement of accounts)
  • Good interpersonal skills in order to deal with issues which are often sensitive and or confidential
  • Excellent written skills, with the ability to accurately summarise and convey complex information
