Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £45,585 to £54,395 with potential progression once in post to £61,198. Grade: 8

Academic Development Programme – new Assistant Professors will undertake a 5-year development programme, at the end of which they are expected to be promoted to Associate Professor. The programme consists of a variety of development opportunities and the time to reflect and develop. 

The School of Pharmacy is seeking to appoint an outstanding Assistant Professor in Clinical Pharmacy to join our growing and vibrant School. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who can contribute to the growing research reputation and established educational excellence of the School. A strong theme within the School of Pharmacy relates to the safe use of medicines.

The University of Birmingham School of Pharmacy resides within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences facilitating interdisciplinary working with researchers and practitioners in Medicine, Dentistry, Biomedical Science, Nursing and Midwifery, and Physiotherapy. Our research environment encourages collaboration with clinical colleagues, enabling translational and clinical patient-facing projects, including clinical trials, cancer science, genomics, and applied health research. Our University provides a strong platform for interdisciplinary research within the University, and to build national and international collaborations. You will be working with highly experienced academics who can support your career development.

The postholder will have a focus in either Clinical Pharmacy or Pharmacy Practice with a desire to further develop their high-quality research and teaching initiatives appropriate to their specialty. This could involve a wide range of subjects relevant to the practice of pharmacy or clinical applications of pharmacy, with research aligned to the core research themes of the College and/or School would be advantageous.

The post will also involve participation in the design, development, delivery, and leadership of a range of programmes of study with a focus on the principles of Clinical Pharmacy relevant to undergraduate pharmacy, postgraduate education, or CPD delivery. Our MPharm programme is a well-regarded undergraduate programme, producing high quality pharmacy graduates.

Person Specification

  • Normally, a higher degree relevant to the research/teaching area (usually PhD) or equivalent qualifications
  • Research/teaching experience and scholarship within subject specialism
  • Proven ability to devise, advise on and manage learning/research
  • Undergraduate Pharmacy degree.
