Assistant Professorship in Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature and Culture at University of Cambridge
Job Description
The Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics (MMLL) seeks to appoint a full-time Assistant Professor (Grade 9) in Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature and Culture from 1 September 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Candidates will have a record of, or clear potential for, outstanding research in Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature and Culture, along with an understanding of the current state of Italian studies more broadly. Preference may be given to candidates with research and teaching specialisms in one or more of the following areas: colonial and postcolonial studies, race and ethnicity, gender/sexuality studies, film and/or visual culture, and environmental humanities. We welcome candidates whose research and teaching demonstrates the potential for collaborative or cross-disciplinary work.
The appointee will contribute at undergraduate (BA) and postgraduate (MPhil and PhD) levels to the teaching and examining of Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature and Culture, and generally contribute to teaching and administration of the Italian Section and the Faculty.
The teaching of Modern Italian Literature and Culture has a distinguished history at Cambridge, and the appointee will be expected to take an active and leading role in sustaining and re-imagining-according to their own specialist area(s) of research-this field.
The role includes an active contribution to the administration of the Section’s and Faculty’s activities.
Candidates will have relevant teaching experience, have successfully completed a PhD in a relevant field by the start date for the post and be able to demonstrate active, collegial engagement or potential in research, teaching, administration and outreach in Italian Studies. A fluent or near-fluent command of both Italian and English is essential.
The appointee will undertake core teaching and supervision, as well as and teaching and supervision underpinned by research in their own field.
