Role summary

This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated researcher to become an integral part of a dynamic research community. In this role, your primary teaching responsibilities will include the development and Lead for Post-Graduate programme in Microbiology and Oral Biology. You will also play a key role in our innovative major-minor program, collaborating closely with the Biomedical Science-Biomaterials programme. Additionally, you will lead the Infection theme within our Human Diseases module as part of our undergraduate BDS programme.

Your research will be instrumental in advancing global oral health, focusing on microbiology, particularly the oral microbiome and oral biofilms. The ideal candidate will adopt a multidisciplinary approach, fostering the development of a unique research niche that seamlessly integrates within our School and extends across relevant areas of the University, including the Institute of Clinical Sciences, the Institute of Microbiology & Infection, and the Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy.

Main Duties

Research

You will pursue sustained research activity through original research and scholarship, including other research-related contributions through conference papers and presentations and/or consultancy projects and advice. You will engage in fruitful collaborations within our own College of Medical and Dental Sciences, specifically with the Institute of Clinical Sciences and Institute of Microbiology & Infection, and also across different Colleges of the University. Where appropriate for the discipline, this may include some but not all of the responsibilities listed below:

  • Make a major contribution to the management of research activities
  • Lead successful funding bids which develop and sustain research support for the specialist area. Publish leading research that results in a sustained, highly respected reputation of international quality in the subject area and/or designing and developing innovative underpinning technologies
  • Provide leadership of research that contributes to the progression of the discipline (in disciplines where this is possible)
  • Referee and peer review articles for peer reviewed academic journals and grant applications by research councils and/or other major funding bodies 

Person Specification

Research 

  • Holder of a PhD in a relevant subject to the post advertised.
  • Excellent national reputation and a developing international profile through significant original research work with a clear record of pathways to impact.
