We are seeking a Marine Underwriter to join our Regional Marine team reporting directly to the Head of
Marine Cargo UK Regions.
Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in growing a profitable Cargo/T&L portfolio in the UK Regions.
  • Responsibilities will include both renewal and new business within UK and Europe
  • Look to achieve portfolio retention and rate increases on renewal book in line with targets set.
  • Input into the Marine UK Regions annual business plan/strategy process.
  • Conduct broker and client meetings as required.
  • Provide input and feedback at the weekly underwriting meetings.
  • Utilizes marketing materials and other product collateral to support marketing and production

initiatives.

  • Develop and manage tripartite relationships with brokers and clients.
  • Provide technical input into future product development.
  • Full and thorough underwriting of all accounts in accordance with underwriting guidelines

and individual authority granted by management.

  • Implementing a field service reputation that is recognized as superior in the industry.
  • Completion of all Sompo training/mandatory courses within deadlines stated.
  • Attend events and seminars organised by various trade societies and associations, promoting company

products.

  • Collaboration with other lines of business to identify cross sell opportunities.
  • Training and development of staff at all levels.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Underwriting/insurance experience
  • Experience with the Cargo/T&L products
  • Prior experience underwriting UK regional clients
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong problem solving, negotiation, and decision making abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, coupled with an analytical skillset.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a team orientated approach and forge and

maintain long-term relationships

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Logical thinking
  • Strong time management
  • Strong administration skills / file keeping
  • Ability to organise efficiently
  • Competent computer skills – must include Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook as a

minimum

  • Preferably ACII qualified, or making progress towards ACII completion
