Job description: Business Analyst – secondment/fixed term opportunity for up to 12 months due to funding.Salary:Band: 11, £44,428 – £48,475 p.a.37 hours per weekYour new roleThis is an exciting opportunity to use your professional business analyst skills, and your experience of working in complex business environments, to make a real impact on Portsmouth City Council’s future strategy and operating model.We are a forward-thinking council, and we need a small team of experienced business analysts to help us set a direction of travel for our ongoing transformation work, based on robust analysis.We are preparing to significantly rationalise our accommodation, including the Civic Offices, in response both to changes to the way we work, and the opportunities created by new and emerging digital technologies.It’s vital that we set the right strategy to make sure the council operates as effectively as possible, so we can continue to deliver the best possible services for Portsmouth and its people and communities. That’s why our future approach will be data and insight driven, shaped by you and your new colleagues.If you are driven by a desire to continuously improve and you have a good understanding of the potential for new and emerging technologies to make an impact, then we want to hear from you.We are looking for three professional business analysts to work across the council over the coming 12 months, liaising with a range of diverse services and stakeholders to understand requirements, and to support the development of our future strategy. Working as part of a team, the business analysts will investigate our current and future accommodation requirements across the organisation, providing the data, insights and robust business cases needed to enable decision-making around the future of our accommodation. The business analysts will also identify opportunities for digital developments that will benefit staff, service users, customers and residents while aligning with skills, capacity, resources, and existing technologies. The role will be broad and varied, working across the council, and actively encouraging collaboration by identifying opportunities.What you’ll need to succeedIdeally, you’ll have a professional qualification in business analysis or significant experience of business analysis, ideally including in an IT/digital environment and preferably in a large or complex business environment. However, more importantly, you’ll be driven by the opportunity to support the council on the next phase of its transformation, using your skills to ensure the organisation sets a future strategy that is based on robust analysis and sound business cases.You’ll have demonstrable experience of delivering effective business analysis and be confident developing and presenting robust business cases. You’ll be an excellent communicator, with the ability to engage successfully with stakeholders from across the organisation.You’ll be an analytical thinker, able to identify complex problems and present potential solutions, supported by evidence.
