Clinical Fellow in Medical Education and Simulation

Job Description

Job title: Clinical Fellow in Medical Education and Simulation

Company: British Medical Journal

Job description: The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust (MYTT) is seeking highly motivated, clinically able applicants who wish to gain experience in clinical teaching, medical education and simulation to work within our highly innovative and exciting medical education team.

These posts have been specifically designed for trainees who are looking to take a 12-month break from their training, after successfully completing their FY2 year, and applicants must have some prior experience in teaching medical undergraduates. This role will enable successful appointees to develop a specialty interest in medical education.

The majority of teaching will be to undergraduate medical students, of all levels but this role will also offer the exciting opportunity to be involved with postgraduate education, in delivering teaching to foundation year 1 & 2 doctors, developing and facilitating our STR1/2DE Teaching Programmes.

These are 12-month posts, beginning in August 2024, averaging 3 days per week over the year. However, most days are worked during medical student term times with more time off over the Christmas, Easter and Summer periods.

Main duties of the job

Successful applicants will work cross-site at Pinderfields Hospital and Dewsbury District Hospital, based within the education centres.

We envisage appointees will organise regular additional clinical locum work, within MYTT, in specialties of their choice to maintain clinical competencies, provide evidence for revalidation, and gain clinical experience in individuals areas of interest. Locum work needs to be organised around the educational commitments of this post, and remain EWTD compliant, and will be remunerated at published internal locum rates.

This post is not a recognised UK training post. However, the post-holder will have an enthusiastic educational supervisor, and be supported in undertaking a wide range of CV-enhancing activities, as part of their role as a member of the medical education team.

About us

We provide care and support to over a million people in Wakefield and Kirklees in their homes, community settings and across our three hospital sites at Pontefract, Dewsbury and Pinderfields (Wakefield).

Always striving for excellence, we are at the forefront of innovation and research, and we invest in teaching and the development of our workforce.

We live by our values of caring, improving, being respectful and maintaining high standards. We listen and learn because we aim to make Mid Yorkshire the best place to work and receive care.

We value diversity and welcome talent and enthusiasm irrespective of age, disability, neurodivergence, sex, gender identity and gender expression, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or other personal circumstances including providing unpaid carers support to someone with a health and care need. As ethnic minority groups, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and people with a disability/neurodivergence are currently under-represented across the organisation, we encourage applications from members of these groups. We have policies and procedures to ensure all applicants are treated fairly and consistently.

We are proud of our staff networks – who offer valuable guidance and feedback from those with lived experience.

We have a clear vision and you could be part of this! If you share our values and you want to make a difference to the lives of our patients and their families and carers, we would love to hear from you.
