Job Purpose

To direct a sales strategy for The English Garden that maximises advertising revenues and profits, while leading your team to achieve the required sales targets.

The English Garden celebrates the very best of English gardens in print and online and is enjoyed by a loyal and international readership of homeowners and garden design professionals. The magazine publishes separate UK and US editions and is the best-selling title of its kind in North America, with more international subscribers than any other British gardening magazine. The English Garden has engaged digital audience which is active across several online platforms.

The English Garden is published by The Chelsea Magazine Company, an award-winning publisher of 15 successful specialist magazines and digital brands.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Lead your team from the front. Achieve your personal sales targets. Coach and motivate your team so they achieve the required team targets.
  • Manage the allocation of clients between team members in a fair and constructive manner that will deliver the best team result.
  • Set KPIs to help the team grow new business revenues, improve yields, increase forward selling and series bookings.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the marketplace, including ongoing analysis of competitor activity.
  • Enhance the brand’s reputation and maximise sales opportunities by maintaining regular contact with the client base through face to face meetings, industry networking events, and presenting on video and telephone calls.
  • Use the CRM to maintain an accurate record of sales, prospects and leads.
  • Collaborate with editorial colleagues to ensure relevant information is exchanged to the benefit of all.
  • Be a positive ambassador for The English Garden, both with clients and internally.

Experience and Skills

Candidates should have a minimum five years’ experience of advertising media sales, preferably with a background in consumer lifestyle print and digital media. They should be familiar with working to strict deadlines and be able to deliver under pressure. They must be able to manage a team to hit target and will be expected to contribute their own personal sales to help achieve this. Leading from the front is important: we want somebody with a hunger for sales who is competitive and confident they can make a positive difference to The English Garden’s advertising performance.
