Job Description
Smiths Detection (Part of the Smiths Group) have an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute
Commercial & Programmes Officer to join us at our Centre of Excellence site based in Hemel Hempstead,
albeit Hybrid.
The Global Contracts and Programmes team oversees complex portfolios of contracts that deliver services to
key global customers. They are the customer main point of contact while managing, coordinating and
communicating with service and sales teams. They are responsible for ensuring contracts are delivered on
time and within budget, that committed margins are achieved and exceeded, business through those contracts
grows, contract renewals are captured and improved upon, opportunities are identified and captured, risk is
managed and appropriately flowed into the supply chain and that customer expectations are met or exceeded
at every stage
The Commercial and Programmes Officer manages key commercial and delivery tasks, including business
performance tracking and reporting, risk and opportunity management, contract preparation and business
forecasting.
Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to)
· Prepare plans and programme schedules for the timing and execution of the contracts, co-ordinate
with internal and external stakeholders to deliver them.
· Analyse and monitor contract and business performance metrics in accordance with customer and
internal business requirements and prepare monthly reports
· Track and manage risk and opportunities
· Prepare contractual letters, amendments, service level agreements and other commercial
documents in support of contract managers, working in conjunction with the legal team
· Plan contract renewals and implement changes, operate business approvals processes and work
within delegated authorities
· Undertake commercial and programme delivery tasks including management of order dispatching,
invoicing, payments, customs paperwork, field service dispatching and logistics escalations
· Work with internal stakeholders to create and deliver improvements to contracts, identify
opportunities to reduce costs, implement work streams to create efficiencies
· Prepare data for contract review meetings with customers and deliver actions as required
· Manage contract data, input to key account plans, operate business forecasting and demand
planning processes.
· Contribute to functional development projects, tools and processes

Experience required
- Either Contract delivery, programme management, commercial management
- Drafting business proposals and contract amendments
- Developing costing
- Analytical skills
- Financial and commercial acumen, cost management
- Project and Programme Management
- Planning and schedule management
- Self-motivated and results-driven
- Contract drafting and contract law
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
- Programme Management Qualification desirable
