Data Scientist (Fixed Term) at University of Cambridge
Job Description
Are you looking for a data science role that gives you the opportunity to be part of a large transformation and make your mark on an organisation rooted in history? The University of Cambridge is looking for a Data Scientist.
Who you’ll be working with
We’re part of the Product and Service Design Division along with experts in UX and service design, user research, business analysis and product management. We work closely with content designers, product managers and delivery managers from Cambridge’s University Information Services as well as subject matter experts across the University.
What you’ll be working on
Your work will be split across related workstreams:
Re-platforming and content rationalisation
The University of Cambridge are undertaking a major redesign and re-platforming programme for our external websites (cam.ac.uk). A big part of this redesign is content rationalisation – the slimming down of our content so that it is ready for the future platform. This will involve working with teams across the university to build a user first approach to all our content.
Cambridge Web Agency (CWA)
CWA is a proposed, in-house agency which will deliver websites for the University of Cambridge. CWA will aim to meet the website needs of the institution whilst continually improving the web estate, with responsibility for the overall user experience. This next generation web agency will have accessibility, inclusion and sustainability at its core. The agency will define a new model for how Cambridge organises and structures our many websites and establish improved online publishing processes for content within those websites. A key deliverable of the agency is developing our future platform moving from a website built around business units to a website focused on user journeys.
-
Conducting quantitative research, including surveys, to inform the development of in-house agency services and set KPIs and OKRs, ensuring data-driven decision-making for the agency.
-
Engaging stakeholders and establishing CRM processes to capture necessary stakeholder information, potentially using tools like Airtable for interim solutions, while planning for long-term CRM implementation.
-
Utilising data analysis to map the current landscape of the University’s web estate, including quantifying expenditure on website management and identifying inefficiencies.
-
Analysing data on the University Information Services (UIS) websites, including breakdowns by department/area and differentiation between internal and external content, to inform decision-making and resource allocation.
-
Investigating content types across UIS websites, both at an aggregate level and by department/area, utilising metadata to facilitate accurate descriptions and tagging.
-
Leveraging existing data in applications such as Airtable to supplement data analysis efforts and support informed decision-making processes.
This project requires proficiency in end-to-end quantitative research and data analysis, encompassing data exploration, model development, and iterative refinement, within multi-disciplinary agile teams. As Data Scientist you would be responsible for comprehensive data analysis for re-platforming, content rationalisation and Cambridge Web Agency, within a collaborative delivery team environment. Experience working closely with content experts and designers would be ideal, although this is not essential for the role.
Applications are welcome from internal candidates who would like to apply for the role on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.
We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.
The University actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society.
