Job description: About the RoleData Warehouse Engineer – Warwick (hybrid working – some travel required)National Grid is set to launch the Great Grid Upgrade Partnership, an opportunity for supply chain partners to help National Grid deliver the largest overhaul of the electricity grid in generations. Our new Strategic Infrastructure (SI) business unit has been set up to deliver 17 new major projects, working collaboratively with selected Design & Consenting and Construction partners to design and deliver c£4.5billion of network construction by 2030.The SI Programme Management Office (PMO) has a significant role to play in supporting delivery of these projects, not least the Performance & Reporting team through the timely provision of information, data, intelligence and insight.As our Data Warehouse Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building and maintaining the data warehouses. You will work with a variety of stakeholders to determine what data should be included in the warehouse, how it should be organised, and how it can be used most effectively. You will also support the SI PMO by creating a stable data environment from which to design, develop and deploy business reports and do this through effective design of the data warehouse, ensuring data consistency, accuracy, and accessibility across a variety of reporting applications.What you’ll be getting up to
- Creating data models based on business objectives to determine how data can be stored and organised to support business processes.
- Designing and implementing improvements to the warehouse’s structure or adding new features as needed to support changing business requirements.
- Designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining the data warehouse infrastructure
- Designing and implementing data models to support business processes and business intelligence needs.
- Identifying opportunities for automation of repetitive tasks within the warehouse to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Creating metadata to describe data sets for easier retrieval and analysis, such as defining the structure of a database so that it can be accessed easily by other applications.
- Developing and implementing data extraction, transformation and loading processes using SQL.
- Setting and following best practices and standards for data warehouse design and implementation.
- Supporting the development of reports that provide insight into customer behaviour or help identify trends in business performance over time.
About You
- Recent and significant experience working in database systems, including knowledge of data warehousing technologies and tools, such as ETL (extract, transfer, load) tools, SQL databases and data modelling techniques.
- Excellent analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Creative and analytical thinking including data visualisation, data cleansing and statistical analysis.
- Experience in MS Azure Cloud Computing and Microsoft Fabric – desirable
