Interaction Engineering have teamed up with a leading innovator in vehicle conversions. Due to an increase in work, they are seeking a highly motivated Automotive Design Manager to lead our dynamic design team. The company specialises in automotive innovation and quality excellence, serving sites all over the UK. They are committed to delivering cutting-edge designs and pioneering solutions.

Position Overview:

As the Manager of Automotive Design, you will be tasked with overseeing the entire design process, ensuring our vehicles meet the highest standards of innovation, quality, and functionality. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will drive creative excellence, delivering compelling automotive designs aligned with our brand identity and market expectations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a small team of automotive designers, fostering a collaborative and innovative design culture.
  • Define the creative direction for automotive design projects, aligning with business values and market trends.
  • Oversee the complete design lifecycle, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget constraints.
  • Take a hands-on approach to prototyping, testing, and iterating in physical forms to refine and enhance designs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, integrating design concepts seamlessly with sales, manufacturing, and operations.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor products.
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging the exploration of new materials, technologies, and design methods.
  • Establish and enforce design standards and guidelines for quality and consistency across all projects.
  • Conduct regular design reviews to stay ahead of trends, providing constructive feedback for team growth and development.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand project requirements and constraints.
  • Effectively communicate design concepts and decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

What we need from you:

  • Degree-level education in Automotive Design, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in 2D & 3D CAD design software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Proven experience as a lead automotive designer or design manager, ideally within the automotive industry.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of successful design projects.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
