Job description: Children, Education and Justice Services

Development Officer (Youth Work)
Tynecastle High School Learning Community, Gorgie Mills School

Salary: £36,312 – £42,717 per year
Hours: 30 per week

The successful candidates will work within the Tynecastle High School Learning Community and be based at Gorgie Mills School.

The Learning Community of Tynecastle HS consists of one high school, one secondary school for pupils with additional support needs and 4 primary schools. The postholders would be working with all schools to support young people in wider achievement activities and continuing to build positive relationships with their school community. We have an inclusive approach to supporting all young people with emotional and social needs and the postholders would be key in continuing this.

The post holders will support delivery of the saltire award and the youth achievement award. They will lead group work and 1:1 sessions for identified young people. It forms part of a number of strategies we have in place to support young people in the schools. In particular, we focus on pupils whose social and emotional needs present barriers to accessing their full school day. The support enables students to develop the necessary qualities of interdependence, self-reliance and self-worth. The post holders will be responsible to the Head Teacher, Gorgie Mills School who will oversee the team, in conjunction with the nurture provision staff. The post holders will also work over the holidays to provide activity-based support/holiday programme for identified young people within the learning community. Experience of working with children and young people with support needs is essential.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
