Job description: Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a Digital Education Fellow as a pilot until October 2024. This new and exciting post brings an opportunity to help move Postgraduate Medical Education forwards, utilising an evidence-based approach to the implementation of digital initiatives that positively enhance education and training. The appointed fellow will work with the findings of a recent in-house research project and multiple stakeholders to implement change that will benefit both junior doctors and trainers. The post is also an opportunity to formally develop medical education experience for those who want to make a commitment to education as part of their career. Clinical opportunities within the post are also available to ensure that those skills are maintained.

This is a fixed term ‘out of programme’ post, based at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital site. The successful applicant should aim to use the time in post to work towards implementing the changes needed to education and training under the supervision of the Director of Medical Education, Dr Orhan Orhan. They will also build on their personal teaching experience, develop expertise in education theory and practice and undertake educational research.

There is no mandatory on-call work.

  • Fully GMC registered
  • Have significant experience of working in the NHS
  • Are digitally capable and have experience at implementing digital solutions and training
  • At a more senior level of training than IMT2/CT2

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential

  • A Core-StR or SpR in a recognised specialty training programme.
  • Full GMC Registration
  • By the time of completing the Fellowship will have no less than 12 months (WTE) of the training programme to run.

Desirable

  • Qualification in IT/Digital Literacy or suitable demonstrable experience
  • Prizes or distinctions
  • Educational Qualification e.g. PGCert or MSc

Experience
Essential

  • Significant experience of working within the NHS (at least 3 years)
  • Satisfactory progression through training as demonstrated by satisfactory RITA or ARCP outcomes

Desirable

  • Presentation of work at a national or international meeting
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals
  • Demonstrates knowledge of career pathways in medical education

Skills and Knowledge
Essential

  • Understands and can apply a range of educational concepts
  • Able to demonstrate personal and educational reasons for applying for this Fellowship programme
  • Shows a commitment to continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Good general knowledge / broad interest in academic medicine
  • Demonstrates how the post will benefit patients in London in the future
  • Research experience
