As our range of academic programmes expands towards postgraduate degrees for existing Dyson engineers around the globe, we are searching for a talented and innovative Digital Learning Design Specialist to join our Smart Campus team. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about supporting the development and promotion of the Institute’s strategic technology platforms to enhance our teaching capability, assessment, and experience.

About the role

 

As a Digital Learning Design Specialist, you will be part of our Smart Campus team that support students and staff across all our education-based technology platforms.

This role will support credentialised online learning for Dyson’s global engineers, blended models for postgraduate students and enhancing the learning experience for our full-time on-site undergraduates.

The successful candidate will be a domain expert who will be responsible for: providing best practice in online learning design; aiding the development of digital course material, enhancements, and training; and supporting the development of our learning technology platforms.

An important part of this role is to develop a strong working relationship with our academic team to support the implementation of best practices in pedagogic design and development of course material, for both in-person and online teaching.  

You will also work with our students throughout their journey with the Institute, and we collectively aim to increase our understanding of the impact of digital technology in relation to equality and diversity in the student experience of teaching and learning in higher education.

You’ll be based on the Dyson technology campus in Malmesbury and will report to the Head of Digital, PMO & Smart Campus Services.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Mentor, train and support academic staff in the practical design and development of engaging, accessible, inclusive, and interactive learning journeys that represent an outstanding digital learning experience
  • Ensure that learning technologies exceed the needs of our learners
  • Oversee and support with the planning, design, and development of high-quality digital content for blended/hybrid programmes
  • Contribute to the planning and development of our Institutional technology roadmap throughout its lifecycle, and managing learning design projects within that develop suitable platforms in conjunction with wider Digital Services, for both academic programme and other strategic needs
  • Stay abreast of digital learning trends and tools in the higher education sector and assess their viability for incorporation with our current technology platforms
  • Contribute to committees and other working groups
  • Notify Head of Digital, PMO & Smart Campus Services of any errors or concerns
  • Work within the relevant frameworks and policies, along with helping support the creation of policies and protocols
  • Support with our Library management as and when needed

The ideal candidate will be a motivated individual who has a passion for pushing the boundaries of digital learning and will integrate successfully into our multi-disciplined team. Essential

  • Educated to STEM degree level or equivalent level of professional qualification. (example CMALT)
  • Practical experience of learning design (instructional design, digital pedagogy) In a STEM context, plus least one of the following:
    • Creation of digital media assets
    • Digital Learning Technologies (example VLE’s, Lecture Recording Systems, Specialist teaching applications)
  • Experience of managing simultaneous digital education projects to meet objectives on time and within budget.
  • Experience of working in collaboration with subject matter experts to coordinate and oversee the planning, design, development, testing and evaluation of digital resources and digital provision of programmes.
  • Familiarity with online learning development tools, virtual learning environments and other digital tools used in education and/or industry. These will include Microsoft 365 products, Canvas, Articulate, Scripting Languages.

Desirable

  • Understanding of best practice in standards-compliancy for accessibility and usability issues.
  • Awareness of cultural diversity within an international environment
  • Flexible, agile approach, a keen eye for detail along with the promotion of positive change.
  • Confidence in advising on and applying a range of learning design theories and principles.
  • Demonstrable interest in digital technology for learning and keeping up to date knowledge on current and emerging trends.
