Education Advocate – Post 16 Job description

Full Time, Fixed Term for 12 months working term time only + 5 days.

Achieving the best outcomes for children in care.

The HOPE, Bristol’s Virtual School for children in care, work alongside young people, carers, education settings and local authority teams to promote the best educational outcomes for children in care. We are seeking to appoint an education advocate for young people in Post 16 education to join our experienced team and enhance capacity to ensure children in care have high quality education plans and suitable provision.

What does the role involve?

The Virtual School is not a physical setting and does not deliver education provision but works with existing settings, carers and social workers to ensure the best outcomes for children in care. The advocate plays a key role in ensuring every child in care has a high-quality personal education plan (PEP), updated every term, and access to suitable provision. Post 16 education advocates also work to ensure that those children and young people not in education employment and training (NEET) are supported to engage with routes back in to education and training.

The role of the advocate involves liaising directly with children, young people, carers and other local authority teams to offer support, advice and guidance and ensure a child in care’s education remains a top priority. Advocates need to be highly-organised and use data for their allocated young people to effectively prioritise their workload and ensure education plans are consistently updated. In addition to personal education plan (PEP) meetings, advocates will be required to attend multi-agency meetings, monitor PEP quality and assist with the strategic development of the Post 16 Pupil Premium plan.

We are seeking someone with strong knowledge and experience of the education sector and a track record of working with children that have experienced adversity to improve their educational outcomes. You will join an experienced team and have the opportunity to contribute to the future of the Virtual School and the best educational outcomes for children in care.

Please note that this role is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.
