The Digital, Data & Technology Department (DDaT) is seeking to appoint a Solution Architect to join the team. 

About the role

The Digital, Data & Technology Department (DDaT) is a passionate community of technical experts who provide digital, data and technology services that are accessible, relevant, and secure. We are motivated by helping people solve problems, be more effective in what they do today and innovating to raise the bar of what can be achieved in future. 

Significant change in technology and service provision is anticipated and it is vital to have effective, proactive engagement with other departments and faculties. This will address a key improvement required within the Evolution project to develop and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders to deliver greater efficiency, coherence, cooperation and coordination. 

The Solution Architect role sits within the Data & Technology pillar within DDaT. As a Solution Architect, working with stakeholders from around the business, you will play a critical role in architecting technical solutions that support the university’s academic and professional services functions. Furthermore, you will play a key role in the development of architectural standards that will be used across the DDaT portfolio, sharing good practices, processes and methods.

This role is offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) permanent basis. 

There is a market supplement of up to £8,000 available at our discretion, based on skills and experience.

About you 

You will be a subject matter expert and trusted partner with excellent communication skills working professionally and collaboratively with colleagues, business stakeholders, business analysts and project managers, to ensure that solutions are aligned with the reference architecture to deliver maximum value to the business. 

Capable of operating across a wide-ranging technology stack including SaaS, PaaS, Commercial off the Shelf as well as in-house custom developed solutions, have the knowledge and skills necessary to take functional and non-functional requirements, provide expert architectural direction to engineering teams based on these requirements and evaluate engineering designs against architectural standards.

As part of the architecture function, drive forward the adoption of new technology and architectural approaches in support of business need, for example adoption of cloud technologies..
