Join our Business Aviation Training Centre in Burgess Hill (West Sussex) as an experienced Environment, Health & Safety Manager (UK). All of our five UK based entities run 24hour simulation flight training operations and you will be working in a dynamic and evolving corporate business environment.

The role we are offering you

You will be responsible for managing the effective delivery of Environmental and Health & Safety (EH&S) operations to meet the Company’s requirements and act as the “Competent Person” for each of the legal entities in the UK. This includes the effective development, implementation and monitoring of policies, procedures, initiatives, and audit strategy with respect to EH&S legal requirements, guidelines, corporate programs, and industry best practice.

Other key responsibilities of the role include

  • Chair and run the EH&S Committee/team meetings for each of the legal entities and provide guidance to operation in executing their specific EH&S responsibilities.
  • Establish and review EH&S policies, procedures, and other documentation to ensure compliance with legislation and industry best practice. This includes the continuous monitoring and review of the UK EH&S Manual, Legal Register(s), the reporting of KPIs and EH&S metrics for each of the legal entities.
  • Perform continuous reviews for hazard identification, risk analysis and assist local managers in developing ways to avoid or mitigate adverse risks, ensuring effective Change Management practices. This will include providing advice and support with the implementation of RAMS, COSHH, PTW, DSEAR, PUWER, LOLER, PSSR, DSE and Manual Handling assessments.
  • Manage Accident/Incident Reporting and investigation requirements, and related company systems. This includes the submission of periodic safety reports to relevant Authorities and management officials (i.e., CAE Inc., the HSE, the EA, where necessary), and meeting the requirements of RIDDOR.
  • Coordinate with each CAE site to ensure an Emergency Response Plan (ERP) has been established, is trained to management personnel, and practiced annually (i.e., desktop exercises, etc.).
  • In collaboration with Facilities Management, ensure the effective management of Fire Life Safety provisions and co-ordinate the requirements of building evacuation drills and related practices.
  • Monitor the EH&S induction and onboarding process for new CAE employees, recommending improvements to ensure effective practices are in place for each legal entity.
  • Liaising with the Global Ethics, Compliance and Privacy Office to deal with any complaints filed regarding a violation or potential violation of CAE’s Global Privacy Policy
  • Being knowledgeable about CAE’s information systems involved in the processing of Personal Information and any processing of Personal Information conducted by third-party service providers

In this role you will also be given relevant training to support the business as it’s Data Protection Officer.

As CAE’s Data Protection Officer, you will be reviewing current business practices and make recommendations on improvements that could be made to ensure compliance with current legislation and advise CAE entities of their obligations to data protection authorities. You will be supporting any compliance audits under the direction and supervision of the Global Ethics, Compliance and Privacy Office.

Our ideal candidate

  • Holds a Bachelor’s degree/NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or an equivalent qualification.
  • Is a member of a recognized professional body (IOSH/IIRSM), at a minimum of Graduate/Certified level, working towards Chartered.
  • Has strong technical knowledge in occupational safety and familiar with environment and climate change matters.
  • Holds a valid, clean UK driving license.
  • Brings 5-8 years’ experience in a similar role.

This position offers hybrid working with a base and strong presence at our Business Aviation Training Centre in Burgess Hill. There is 50% to 70% national travel in the role.
