Job Description

Job title: Executive Chief Medical Officer, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust

Company: Alumni Global

Job description: Welcome Letter

Dear Candidate

Thank you for your interest in the role of Executive CMO at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting time to join our Trust and play a key strategic role in the development of outstanding services to the large and diverse community we serve.

UHDB is a large integrated acute and community provider and a major teaching hospital which is a trusted anchor institution at the heart of our communities. We have over 14,000 staff working across five hospitals and many other sites across Derbyshire and Staffordshire. We have a diverse and talented unitary Board and an outstanding opportunity for a talented Executive Director to join our Executive Team and Trust Board.

Playing an influential and critical role in two integrated care systems, we are an organisation of considerable scale, complexity and potential, and we recognise the important role we can play in supporting the public, patients, our own people and local partners in achieving the best of health for the local population and the communities in which they live by providing Exceptional Care Together.

As our new Executive Chief Medical Officer you will play a key role as a full voting member of the Board and senior medical leader, not just within our Trust, but across the wider Staffordshire and Derbyshire health and care systems. You will lead and advise on the development of medical strategy and services for the Trust as well as act as Caldicott Guardian and Executive Lead for Health Inequalities and Prevention. You will also work with Universities of Nottingham and Leicester to ensure the successful integration of medical under-graduate placements in the Trust.

We are looking for an experienced medical leader who can evidence success in healthcare provider organisations of similar scale and complexity. You will be an effective role model, exhibiting and promoting collaborative leadership behaviours that uphold our values of Compassion, Openness and Excellence, providing strategic vision, challenge and support to all colleagues in the Trust.

We have many fantastic people working at UHDB, and there is a strong desire to build on the good work that has happened in our journey so far; we are refreshing our Trust strategy and focusing on developing our open and compassionate culture to make UHDB an inclusive and progressive place to work for all. Alongside this, we will need to continue to address the challenges facing the NHS and make sure we deliver exceptional care, together, to the patients who need us.

Our Board members are our ambassadors; we need talented individuals to join our leadership team who can make a positive difference and who are role models for our values of excellence, compassion, and openness.

In turn, you will be welcomed into an excellent team, where you are encouraged to use your expertise and experience to challenge, support and provide independent judgement and advice.

I am delighted that you are considering the opportunity to make a real difference and impact in one of the largest employers in our area, during a time of change and challenge.

Please contact our advisors at Alumni Global to discuss your interest, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Stephen Posey
