About the role

Facilities Services provide those services that allow the essential and safe running of the Bodleian Library. Teams in the section cover facilities management, security, engineering, maintenance, transport, health & safety and post.  

 

We are seeking a Facilities Assistant to work within a small team looking after the first line maintenance of the buildings, ensuring a safe and comfortable working environment for staff, students, academics and researchers from across the world.

 

You will assist with electrically biased daily reactive and preventative maintenance requirements of the site, including liaising with contractors, lamp changing, ensuring the safe use of equipment, reporting faults, handyman assistance, routine general maintenance tasks and being part of a priority response team. There is also an important element of assisting and covering for absences for the internal post and porter service for which training will be given. Additionally, this role is included on our emergency call out rota usually one in every six weeks.

 

This is a permanent, full-time post, working 36.5 hours per week.

 

Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a satisfactory basic Disclosure and Barring Service check due to regular access to secure areas.

 

About you

You will have experience of practical maintenance tasks

 

You will have experience in escorting contractors and overseeing maintenance and building works

 

You will be able to respond promptly and effectively to changes in priorities and deadlines

 

You will be able to carry tools, materials, equipment and furniture and be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.   

 

It is also essential that you trustworthy and reliable and have the ability to develop good working relationships with clients and staff and are prepared to work flexibly as part of a team.

 

Knowledge of health and safety is desirable.
