About University

Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)(HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run higher education institution between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. HKUST(GZ) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and has become the first legally-independent educational institution co-established by the Mainland and Hong Kong since the announcement and implementation of the “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and the “Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou”.  HKUST(GZ) is located at No.1 Duxue Road, Qingsheng Hub Cluster, Nansha District, Guangzhou. The campus covers an area of about 1,669 mu (111.3 hectares) and is divided into two construction phases. The first phase covers an area of about 716 mu (47.7 hectares) with a floorage of about 636,000 square meters (63.6 hectares), which has been officially put into use in September 2022. 

The intended areas of focus in the GZ Campus will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST without overlapping academic degrees or structures. HKUST(GZ) comprises four Hubs, namely Function Hub, Information Hub, Systems Hub, Society Hub and offers 16 postgraduate degrees.  At steady state, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate students will reach a total of 10,000.

About School/College/Institute

Currently offering MPhil and PhD degrees, the CMA focuses on computational media and arts using emerging technologies. It promotes the interplay of media arts, technology, and research and exploits the most advanced technologies for creativity with a social impact. 

Composed of faculty members and students from diverse backgrounds, such as media arts, computing, and engineering, CMA is currently recruiting open-minded, creative, and hands-on faculty at any rank who would like to thrive pursuing high impact computational media and art-related research in an interdisciplinary academic environment. 

We welcome candidates from a wide range of backgrounds related to computational media and arts, and those whose research and practice fall within the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: 

  • Media Arts (interactive art, sonic art, music, robotic art, generative art, AI art, etc.)
  • Critical media studies, media art history, and theory
  • Immersive media, cinematic, narrative, and performative practices
  • Augmented/virtual/mixed reality (VR, AR, XR)
  • Games and Interactive Media
  • Computer graphics and 3D animation
  • Computational design and generative fabrication
  • Art/science research practices 

Requirement

All candidates should have a PhD degree in related fields by the time of employment. Artist candidates should also have a portfolio demonstrating sustained creative practice. 

The appointee is expected to (i) teach related courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, (ii) develop a vigorous research program in their areas of interest, and (iii) provide service to the division/academy/university governance and professional communities.
