The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.  

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.  

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won’t be solved by science alone.  

We are looking for a Finance Business Partner – Financial Planning & Analysis to join our Commercial Finance & Financial Planning & Analysis team.  

Where in Wellcome will I be working?  

You will be supporting the team within the Financial Planning & analysis team reporting to Senior Manager for Financial Planning & analysis (FP&A)

This role is part of the Commercial Finance and Planning and Analysis Team, this team provide business partnering across the organisation to enable effective decision making, manage the financial planning process as well as producing analysis and reporting for ELT, the Board of Governors and to each area of the organisation. This a central team responsible for planning and analysis and there are teams of business partners who often act as the first port of call into finance and provide insight, advice and due diligence drawing on our technical experts as needed.

What will I be doing?  

You will play a crucial role in driving financial excellence and strategic decision making across the organisation. An important objective will be to provide comprehensive financial analysis and reporting to the Executive and Board, enabling informed decision making and alignment with organisation objectives. Collaborating closely with cross-function teams, you’ll contribute to the development of robust financial plans, forecasts and performance metrics. Your role is pivotal to meeting wider objectives of enhancing financial transparency, accountability and operational efficiency within the organisation.  

As a Finance Business Partner – FP&A , you will  

  • Build strong relationships across Commercial Finance, Planning and Analysis and the wider Finance team

  • Deliver high quality financial and business analysis and reporting to the Board of Governors and Executive Leadership Team, highlighting key issues and proposing corrective action where appropriate.

  • Deliver a timely and robust budgeting, forecasting and longer-term financial planning process which is fully aligned and integrated with Wellcome’s organisational strategy

  • Drive accountability for financial performance by ensuring that appropriate budgetary controls, processes and governance are in place and operative across the organisation.

  • Provide relevant analysis and insight enabling high quality decision making with due consideration of risk.

  • Deliver improvements to Finance systems and processes, working in conjunction with the Digital and Technology team with a focus on driving improvements in both information provision and overall efficiency of operation.

  • Support Finance analytical systems including IBM TM1/Planning Analytics and Tableau by enabling best practice and managing resolution of issues (with relevant technical experts)

  •  Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.

We are looking for someone who:  

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA or relevant qualification

  • Experience working in a core accounting role, eg producing variance commentary, budgeting and forecasting.

  • Advanced Excel and finance systems skills as well as experience using finance and analytical systems e.g. Agresso/Unit4, TM1, Tableau

  • Ability to manage own workload with focus on delivery, to work on own or as part of a multi-functional team

  • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders

  • Excellent attention to detail

Our Hybrid Way of Working 

We understand that our colleagues have commitments and personal interests outside of work and we strive to build a flexible working environment, in which people can perform at their best. We are currently working 2 days per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) from our Euston Road offices (as part of our hybrid Ways of Working) with the remaining 3 days working either remotely or in the office. 

From 1st September 2024 we will move to 3 days in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) with the remaining 2 days working either remotely or in the office.
