Job Description

Reporting into the Manager – Reporting & Transformation, this person will be responsible for statutory and external financial reporting within the Finance team.

As Depop grows, so do our compliance requirements and following the acquisition of Depop by Etsy, the company compliance and reporting requirements have scaled beyond statutory UK filings, and now require group reporting under US GAAP and SEC reporting compliance. Working alongside our internal management accountants, financial reporting, finance operations and finance transformation teams, the successful candidate shall be responsible for executing on all aspects of external reporting, group financial reporting and statutory accounting for the UK, US and Australian entities. This person will look for process improvement opportunities within their external financial reporting scope and have a continuous improvement mindset.

We’re looking for an experienced, practical individual who is prepared to work as part of a team but with the confidence to work autonomously and take ownership for this critical area.

Responsibilities:

Statutory Reporting

  • Leads the internal preparation for the external audit, working with the team to plan and produce the audit files, policy documentation and walkthroughs in a timely and an accurate manner.
  • Responsible for the preparation of the Financial Statements (FRS102 and related GAAP adjustments)
  • Prepare calculations for complex accounting projects, including and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to collate calculation and assumption inputs for each accounting project. Topics include but are not limited to accounting for share-based payments, accounting for complex provisions and accounting for deferred tax.
  • Prepare technical accounting memorandums to support assumptions used within complex accounting areas. Assist with technical accounting research and documentation of new policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with Group tax team and external tax advisors for preparation of the tax note
  • Manage the relationship with the external auditors alongside with the Manager – Reporting & Transformation to ensure the audit is as short as possible resulting in an excellent audit report.
  • Coordinate with the legal team and investor relations filing with companies house
  • Pro-actively seeks areas to improve both the overall Statutory Reporting process and the external audit and related internal processes.
  • Works with the rest of the Finance team to follow up on audit observations, ensuring consistency of approach and high standards of audit files, driving high levels of individual accountability, engagement and development.
  • Lead the audit process and be key contact for auditors for the separate subsidiary financial statements filed in Australia

Financial Reporting:

  • Participate in the coordination and preparation of the information required for the quarterly reports (10-Q), annual reports (10- K) and current reports (8-K) for the parent company.
  • Responsible for preparation of the SEC Quarterly reporting pack submitted to Etsy
  • Holistic review of our statutory reporting and compliance process, including the assessment of outsource vs in-house preparation and how we manage in-house planning.
  • Staying ahead of changing regulations and working to ensure full compliance.
  • Collaborate with external partners to complete local and international filings and review to ensure accuracy and timely completion.
  • Coordinating information for any other reporting requirements such as corporate governance, the strategic and directors reports, sustainability disclosures, etc.
  • Perform review of balance sheet reconciliations as support for various management accountant team members

Transformation & Other

  • Own elements of the finance transformation roadmap to support improvements in both internal and external Reporting.
  • Assist with establishment, documentation, and maintenance of company accounting policies including US and UK GAAP differences and the impact to Depop.
  • Documentation and amendment of internal processes so that it is in line with the overall Etsy policies and process.
  • Update and maintain SOX framework for key accounting process flows.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • You will be an ambitious, dedicated individual that is excited about the opportunity to develop in a fast-paced global business that is constantly changing
  • Technically strong accounting skills and confident with financial reporting, with FRS102, IFRS and US GAAP exposure.
  • PQE, ACA/ACCA qualified
  • You will be a diligent and conscientious individual with an eye for detail
  • Good experience of accounting systems and internal controls
  • Results-oriented approach, with the ability and to make independent decisions with a solutions-driven approach
  • Proven track record of balancing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, able to work in an agile manner and prioritise an ongoing list of tasks
  • Willingness and ability to perform tasks at all levels, from detailed preparation to high level review and strategic planning.
  • Good communicator & team player with the ability to coordinate and influence cross-functionally with external and non-finance partners.

Bonus:

  • Experience with US parent company, or post-acquisition environments
  • Experience in managing the coordination and preparation of financial statements and disclosures on Forms 10-Q, 10-K and 8-K with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
  • Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements
