Job Description

Please note this is a part time position, working 22.5 hours per week over three days. This is a home based role, with occasional travel to Wolverhampton and customer sites as required.

The purpose of this role is to be a specialist within the field of Food Chemistry, providing technical advice and consultancy to clients and the business, and to lead and work on projects in partnership with stakeholders. Main duties to include:

  • Provide a high level of technical advice on Food Chemistry and Risk Management to the UK Food Testing business, its customers and other stakeholders.
  • Project Manage the entire lifecycle of a project from start to finish, including the planning, execution and monitoring, to ensure the project delivers the agreed objectives on time and within budget.
  • Manage and work on internal and customer Food Chemistry and Innovation projects.
  • Collaborate with and support the Retail and Risk Management teams on Food Chemistry matters, including the development of risk assessments, surveillance sampling programs, incident investigation, horizon-scanning and insights.
  • Pro-active approach to the sharing of data on emerging risks and trends in food authenticity and food contaminants. Review retailer testing programs and advise where additional testing may be required.
  • Interpret food chemistry test results, provide conclusions and identify any potential risks or other testing that maybe required.
  • Foster and develop relationships with the various Eurofins Centre of Excellence sites, specifically in the areas of contaminants and authenticity.
  • When appropriate, support the retail team with the identification of test methods relevant to food chemistry and retailer monitoring plans.
  • Provide technical advice and support to the Analytical Service Manager, Customer Services and Commercial teams, including attending customer meetings as required.
  • Support in the design and development of food chemistry consultancy services relevant to retailers and food manufacturers.
  • Be pro-active in promoting the risk-based approach to testing and relevant consultancy offerings, both internally and externally.
  • Provide training courses for the business and customers, as and when required.
  • Support investigations into complaints and queries regarding test results.
  • Keep up to date with new test methods, to support the rational for testing and be pro-active in driving conversations with customers.
  • Keep up to date with food chemistry testing, regulatory requirements and food industry news, and communicate internally as required.
  • Mentor and coach staff to increase specialist testing and industry knowledge.
  • Participate in and represent Eurofins at conferences and other events.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Food Chemistry.
  • A strong understanding of the latest theory and developments within Food chemistry. Knowledge of UKAS, ISO methods and RSA requirements where applicable
  • A strong understanding of food authenticity and contaminants and the legislative framework.
  • Experience of working with a broad range of internal and external customers.
  • Experience of providing training to both employees and external customers.
  • Competence in IT, including LIMS, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Ability to interpret present and explain complex information.
  • Ability to analyse specialist results.
  • Excellent presentation, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills that engages key stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational, multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Cross-functional working.
