We’re looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Food Technologist Apprentice to join our Technical Services team in Manchester to help make sure that our Co-op food products are safe and in line with legal regulations. You’ll also be supported through a 3-year learning programme in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University, working towards a BSc (Hons) Professional Practice in Food Technology degree.
Over the 3 years, you’ll cover a variety of modules; from food innovation management to food nutrition and chemistry. This will all be underpinned by work-based learning projects and on-the-job training. It’s an incredible opportunity for you to get a real taste for our retail business, as well as gaining a degree qualification and kick-starting your career. What you’ll do
- Get stuck into your role from day one – supported by your colleagues and mentors to manage a variety of projects
- Spend one day each working week studying towards your qualification with Sheffield Hallam University
- Gain an in-depth understanding of our Technical Services team
- Attend several in-person group study sessions at Sheffield Hallam University for three days at a time, completing assessments at the end of each year of the programme
- Collaborate with your colleagues and our suppliers to support the delivery of Co-op brand products
- Carry-out independent and group visits to our suppliers across the UK as necessary (these may be at relatively short notice)
This role would suit people who have
- GCSE Maths and English Language at level 2 or above (grade 4, or previously C)
- Achieved or are predicted to achieve 96 UCAS points (280 UCAS points pre-2017) including at least one A-Level in a science or food technology
- Good problem-solving skills and a high level of attention to detail
- A keen interest in science and a passion for food, along with a basic understanding of the food industry
