Job Duties:
- Deliver engaging and comprehensive food technology lessons to students, ensuring adherence to the curriculum and educational standards.
- Plan and prepare lesson materials, including instructional resources and assessments, to facilitate effective learning.
- Provide guidance and support to students in developing practical skills related to food preparation, cooking techniques, and nutrition.
- Evaluate student performance through various assessment methods, including tests, projects, and practical demonstrations.
- Monitor and track individual student progress, providing constructive feedback and implementing strategies for improvement.
- Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters student engagement, participation, and respect for diversity.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement innovative teaching methods and strategies.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and curriculum development activities.
- Ensure compliance with school policies, health and safety regulations, and safeguarding procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE or equivalent) in Food Technology or a related field.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
- Up-to-date knowledge of the food technology curriculum and educational standards.
Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Food Science, or a relevant discipline.
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in food technology or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and delivering effective food technology lessons.
- Experience in assessing student performance and providing constructive feedback.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Thorough understanding of food technology concepts, cooking techniques, and nutrition principles.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Organisational skills to plan lessons, manage resources, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in using educational technology and software relevant to food technology instruction.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Food Technology, Food Science, or a related discipline.
- Additional certifications or training in culinary arts or nutrition.
- Experience in teaching food technology at the secondary school level.
- Experience in curriculum development or educational leadership roles.
Working Conditions:
- The food technology teacher will primarily work in a classroom setting within a secondary school environment.
- Regular working hours are expected, with occasional flexibility required for extracurricular activities or events.
- The role may involve handling and working with various kitchen equipment and ingredients.
- Collaboration with colleagues and participation in staff meetings and professional development sessions is expected.
