We are looking for a highly motivated and organised individual to join our team as a Genomics and Bioinformatics Training Coordinator. You will assist in planning, coordination, implementation, and delivery of a programme of introductory and advanced training courses in next generation genomics and bioinformatics.
We are a leading core Facility at the University of Edinburgh that provides specialised services and advanced training in genomics and bioinformatics. We work with several sequencing technologies, like Illumina, PacBio and Oxford Nanopore, and a large in-house high-performance computing infrastructure to deliver high-quality sequence data and bioinformatics analysis. Along with this, training is one of the major components where we offer a variety of specialised courses in genomics and bioinformatics, training hundreds of students every year.
You will have relevant qualifications in biological or computing sciences with appropriate knowledge in molecular biology and bioinformatics, as well as experience in assisting with the delivery and organisation of training courses. You will have strong communication skills, a passion for contributing to the delivery of learning and development, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
The Opportunity:
You will join a dynamic team working at the forefront of genomics with highly experienced and qualified genomics scientists, bioinformatics analysts and programmers, and lab technicians. You will play a key role in scheduling and coordinating training sessions, ensuring that all logistical aspects, materials, and technology requirements are in place. You will be responsible to assist in implementing assessments to measure the effectiveness of the training programs by collecting feedback from participants and stakeholders to continuously improve training initiatives and support in implementing improvements to enhance the overall training experience. You will keep up to date with the industry trends and best practices in training and development.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- A degree in biological or computing sciences or related qualifications.
- Experience assisting in the delivery of training courses in bioinformatics, genomics and/or biosciences.
- Working experience with online training platforms and virtual learning environments (e.g., Blackboard Collaborate, Zoom, Google Meet, etc).
- Ability to adapt positively to change in the workplace and to embrace opportunities for development of self and others.
