We are recruiting a Genomics Bioinformatician who will focus on developing and maintaining data processing pipelines for the NIHR BioResource long read sequencing data. Responsibilities include optimizing data workflows, ensuring data quality, and supporting lead analysts. The candidate will contribute to the whole research process, including planning, decision making, data collection, data cleaning, analysis, documentation in GitHub and distribution of results in written and oral form.

About the job:
This is an exciting position that will play a vital role in supporting long read sequencing and genomics research in the UK’s largest long read sequencing project, using samples and data from the NIHR Bioresource.
You will hold a relevant PhD in statistical genetics or bioinformatics or have at least 4 years of relevant experience and be proficient in the generation or analysis of large-scale genomic data and bioinformatics. Optimally, this will include genome wide association studies, and/or exome or whole genome sequencing analyses. Alternatively, you will have experience in large-scale biomarker informatics.
The role holder will have good skills in statistical analysis, preferably in R and/or python, and LINUX/bash. You will be able to work independently and maintain excellent relationships with our collaborators. High quality written communication and presentation skills are essential.

You will ideally have:
- Experience with IT and database management with LINUX/UNIX and High Performance Computing (HPC) environments
- Formal bioinformatics and programming experience or training
- Excellent organisational, communication, interpersonal and administrative skills
- Ability to follow research guidelines and protocols

Our offices are on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus CB2 0QQ (approximately 2 miles south of the city centre).
The post is available on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2026 in the first instance. NIHR BioResource is funded by the National Institute for Health & Care Research (NIHR) on a 5-year funding cycle. It was announced last year that NIHR BioResource will receive new funding over the next 5 years.
This appointment requires a Research Passport application.
