Head of E-Learning at Birmingham Newman University

Job Description

Full Time and Permanent

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Directorate of Learning, Teaching and Scholarship at Birmingham Newman University, and to lead our small e-learning team, as we transform our technology enhanced provision to meet the needs of the next generation of students, across our expanding range of innovative programmes.

The successful candidate will ensure that e-learning is coherently managed and supported, within the University’s Strategic Framework and relevant sub-strategies. This will involve leading the e-learning team in the effective deployment of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) of the University and other key elearning systems; such as plagiarism detection, lecture capture and engagement monitoring software. The role includes responsibility for the evaluation of current provision and strategic development of enhanced e-learning provision to support students and academic colleagues in their use of e-learning technologies. As a major contributor to the implementation of the University’s Student Success Strategy and Digital Strategy, you will work with other service area colleagues to ensure the compatibility of systems and the integration of related processes.  You will also lead the provision of e-learning induction and training sessions and be proactive in identifying and addressing areas for development.

The successful candidate will be qualified to at least degree level and hold a HEA Fellowship or equivalent teaching qualification. You will have a track record of effective contributions to technology enhanced learning project development, implementation and evaluation; experience supporting effective use of a range of elearning technologies, including a VLE, in an educational setting; and working in a team to deliver enhancements in e-learning, systems, processes and deployment. You will bring good organisational skills and ability in e-learning project planning, implementation and evaluation. Experienced in the design and delivery of appropriate training and development on e-learning systems, you will be able to communicate confidently and effectively in order to engage and inspire others to make effective use of elearning tools, systems and processes. In your work, you will embody Birmingham Newman University’s values of partnership, care and compassion.
