- WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.
We’ve an exciting opportunity for you to join the Legal & Secretariat (L&S) Extended Leadership Team as the Head of Everyday Banking Legal.Reporting to the Consumer Legal General Counsel, you’ll lead, empower and mentor your team to deliver legal advice to the Everyday Banking (EB) and wider Consumer Relationship business, platforms, and channels, as required. You’ll work collaboratively with other Legal teams (this is a team sport!) to provide advice on specialist legal topics. Our aim is to provide risk informed, pragmatic and commercial options to business leaders to allow them to make strategic decisions to grow businesses. We do this by making sure our Legal & Secretariat Community has the best people, doing the right things, to support delivery of our Group strategy – to grow, focus and change so that we can Help Britain Prosper. Consumer Legal supports key LBG business units with a hands-on strategy role, in a fun and dynamic environment.Key Accountabilities
- Accountable for legal advice provided to the EB business covering both, products (savings and personal current accounts) and channels (branches, digital and telephony), providing counsel on all legal matters impacting the EB business and strategic management of high-risk legal issues.
- Work closely with other members of the Senior and Extended Leadership Teams across L&S, in line with the Legal matrix model. In particular, work closely with the Specialist Banking and Mass Affluent legal team and the Consumer Lending teams to provide a joined up legal service.
- Lead, develop, and mentor the EB Legal team.
- Proactively lead, develop, and maintain intra-group relationships to handle legal issues of common interest.
- With the L&S Extended Leadership Team, proactively contribute to the strategy and continued development of the whole L&S community.
- Actively participate in external industry bodies and forums representing L&S and maintain relationships with external legal panel firms.
What you’ll need
- Qualified and highly experienced lawyer with significant experience of working at senior management level. Proven leadership skills with the ability to work with people at all levels and to effectively challenge. A high level of judgment in both technical and tactical areas, operating strategically and supporting others to manage the detail.
- Relationship Management – You’ll be at ease in working with Executive level colleagues. You’ll get to the heart of strategic questions quickly, whilst maintaining high levels of engagement.
- People Management – manage, coach, lead and develop colleagues with an inclusive approach. Role model continuous active learning and self-development. Exploring new ways of handling legal risk through technology and using data.
- Change management – You’ll be an action-orientated leader who is able to challenge existing thinking, bringing the team along with you, working in an agile way to transform products and services.
- Communication – Strong communication skills and storytelling ability to encourage a team. You’ll have the ability to present sophisticated data and insight in an accessible manner for different audiences, be able to create a culture of ongoing constructive dialogue and have compelling impact.
- Knowledge of current best practice, competitor behaviour and relevant legal and regulatory frameworks and requirements (including proposed future changes) in relation to banking and payment services. A good understanding of the EB business, the wider financial services industry and pertinent economic and political factors impacting the Group.
- Risk Management – Proven ability to manage risk effectively, take calculated risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
