British Airways is seeking an experienced professional to join our team as the Head of Flight Training. This critical leadership role will oversee pilot and cabin crew training, shaping the future of our Approved Training Organisation (ATO) and ensuring regulatory compliance.

As the AOC Nominated Person for pilot and cabin crew training and the accountable manager for the ATO, this role holds overall responsibility for the development, delivery, and regulatory compliance of pilot training, testing, and performance policy.

Key Accountabilities –

  • Oversee and hold overall responsibility for the oversight and regulatory approval of the BA Approved Training and Organisation.
  • Develop and recommend training policies for pilots and cabin crew to the Flight Operations Standards Group (FOSG), ensuring they support and maintain a safe, flexible, and efficient operation.
  • Lead the development of the department’s training strategy, emphasising changes that enhance operational safety and training efficiency.
  • Engage at the Management Committee level to influence future training policy and investment.
  • Be accountable for the ATO and FSTD (Flight Simulation Training Devices) regulatory domain within the BA Management System, contributing to the Corporate Safety Board and NP meetings.
  • Proactively engage and collaborate with regulatory and industry bodies to develop training methodologies and regulations that encourage the cost-effective delivery of safe and efficient operations.
  • Represent Flight Operations by participating in discussions on training, examining, and operational matters with the CAA, EASA, and other NAAs.
  • Lead the industrial engagement with BALPA concerning pilot training.

Key Skills/ Qualifications –

A strong background in aviation is an essential for this role. The ideal candidate should be a highly motivated individual, with the ability to inspire, coach, develop, and lead team members and Training Appointment holders. This position requires a professional who consistently delivers results in a dynamic and ever-changing environment. A proven track record of working within the regulatory process, with current experience and knowledge of regulations and the regulatory regime, is crucial. The successful candidates will have a background in pilot training and examining and will hold credibility within the flight crew and training appointment holder communities.

  • Meets the requirements of the CAA for a senior manager in this role Educated to degree level of equivalent.
  • Current in company required training (equal opportunities, H & S, disciplinary and performance management training etc.)
  • Current Airline Transport Pilots Licence (ATPL) recognised by the UK CAA
  • Current Type Rating Instructor/Type Rating Examiner (TRI/TRE)
