About this role: The Media Relations team, within the Future Students, Communications and Marketing Department is responsible for managing UWE’s reputation, including issues and crisis management.  The team of media relations experts develop proactive media strategies to promote UWE across the full range of channels as well as managing a wide range of reactive issues.  We’re looking for a new leader for the team.  So if you have a creative mind, an eye for detail, excellent communication and networking skills and are great at anticipating and spotting breaking news stories and are able to issue swift and accurate responses this might be the role for you. 

Alongside working with colleagues across the university to gather case studies and engaging content, you’ll also work closely with the Internal Communications team, Social Media team and Marketing Communications team to ensure content is shared as widely as possible.

About you: You’ll need to have significant experience of working in a busy media/press office environment, within a larger or complex organisation.  You should have demonstrable experience of managing crisis/issues management, taking responsibility for drafting responses as well as an excellent understanding of external media and editorial experience of conveying subject matter concisely and compellingly to audiences.

You’ll have the ability to quickly foster working relationships, as you’ll be managing and nurturing relationships with colleagues across UWE and with key media contacts and external organisations.  You’ll have a team to lead and inspire – so you’ll be an experienced manager.

Familiarity with issue relating to Higher Education is desirable.

This is a full -time, permanent post, working 37 hours per week.

This post is not available on a job share basis

This role is campus based for a minimum of 2 days per week with the opportunity to work from home on the remaining days.
