Job description: Taunton School seeks to appoint a well-qualified, inspirational and enthusiastic Head of Physical Education to lead a vibrant and committed department from September 2024.Academic and Core Physical Education play a key role at Taunton School, with healthy numbers of students choosing to study the subject at GCSE, A-level and for the BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science. As the Head of Physical Education, you will lead the department through effective planning, communication, resource management and organising of the curriculum to further enhance its reputation and results.In addition to promoting enthusiasm for all things relating to Physical Education around the school, the Head of Physical Education will be expected to provide stimulating, well-planned lessons and to deliver an exceptional educational experience. You will also be expected to contribute to the co-curricular and pastoral life of the school.As the leading subject professional, combining expertise and energy with a clear vision and first-rate administrative skills, the Head of Physical Education will encourage and motivate staff and students to aim for the highest standards of teaching, learning and student wellbeing so the department continues to grow and expand.The Physical Education Department is supported by excellent sporting facilities. Indoors, there is a large sports hall, equipped for most activities; a modern and well-appointed fitness room, an older gymnasium, two swimming pools and two squash courts. Outdoor facilities include two astro-turf hockey pitches, eight netball courts, used for tennis during the summer, numerous grass pitches for rugby, cricket and rounders, and a 400-metre grass athletics track.
