Sport

Hockey is a leading sport at Durham and the Head Coach will play a pivotal role within both men’s and women’s hockey and the wider Team Durham coaching team. Both clubs have had amazing success over the last few years and this appointment is critical to maintain that momentum. The programme for both genders spans BUCS and England Hockey National League programmes. The University is also an England Hockey Talent Academy nurturing the best young hockey players in the North East of England.

Primarily the Head Coach will:

  • Lead and develop the men’s and women’s hockey programme;
  • lead coach to the men’s programme and provide oversight to the other part time and support coaches of the men’s and women’s programme
  • build a network of part time and volunteer coaches to underpin support across all of the representative teams
  • be involved in the recruitment of the best men’s and women’s hockey players at both undergraduate and post graduate level;
  • develop relationships both internally and externally for the benefit of the programme, with particular reference to the England, Scotland and Welsh hockey federations, GB Hockey, British Universities and Colleges Sport and hockey playing schools;
