Join us.Job DescriptionAre you a Human Factors specialist looking to work in a variety projects? The work is predominantly in the UK Rail sector, but we also have pipeline work in the aviation and international markets.If so, we are looking for an experienced Human Factors rail specialist to join our team. We are a team with a geographical spread across the UK and embrace the hybrid way of working. You will be joining a team of like-minded experts that have a passion for innovation and delivering cutting edge solutions.Our Human Factors team sit in the wider Human Excellence group in AECOM encompasses all things human! This includes Human Factors and behaviour change capabilities. Providing the whole package of understanding how people interact, with the insight into why they do what they do and using this intelligence to deliver sustainable and innovative solutions.We are seeking a person to join our team, to help deliver a number of UK rail projects, to be CRE and help us to continue to grow this capability. There is also the potential for the right candidate to expand their experience across other sectors such as aviation, water and nuclear and work on a mixture of small- and large-scale international projects.We are seeking a passionate individual who will:
- Conduct Human Factors and Ergonomics Analysis
- Conduct comprehensive analyses of human interactions within railway systems, considering factors such as cognition, ergonomics, psychology, and physiology.
- Eliciting Ergonomics requirements and working with project teams to deliver user needs.
- Conducting Project Ergonomics Surveys including observing current railway signaling tasks, level crossing control, measuring operational workload, impact assessments, Training Needs Analysis and analysing and presenting data to be fed into design activities and presented to clients.
- Safety Assessment Identify potential risks related to human error in railway operations and propose strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Usability Studies
- Evaluate the usability of railway equipment, interfaces, and procedures to ensure they align with human capabilities and user needs.
- Undertaking usability evaluations in line with Human Factors standards for equipment/ layout/ HMIs to demonstrate systems support operators to perform tasks in an efficient manner.
- System Design and Evaluation – Working with project teams to assess Accessibility and Design for Inclusion
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to integrate human-centered design principles into railway systems, evaluating prototypes and providing recommendations for improvements.
- Producing the Concept of Operations to support new/ modified station/ depot design, and conducting Access & Maintenance assessments, room layout & workstation design including Control room design.
- Analyse data related to human performance, operational efficiency, and safety incidents to identify trends and areas for improvement.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
- Human Factors experience in the UK rail sector
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in Human Factors
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previously held CRE status with Network Rail
- A clear work history and proof of professional development and learning
