Job description: As an Installations Officer, you’ll have the chance to make a real difference in protecting our environment and people. You will be responsible for regulating process industry sectors such as Incineration, Combustion, chemicals and Food and Drink – it’s your opportunity to influence change and ensure best practice! Plus with 50% of your time devoted to enforcing rules on sites using non-nuclear radioactive substances, your efforts in this cutting-edge role will make an impact on current trends – not only now but for future generations. You will undertake a range of site-based inspections and audits together with assessment of emissions and other monitoring data to check compliance against permit conditions and other environmental legislation.

Our Welwyn Garden City office has a hybrid model allowing individuals to work either at home or at our office (a minimum number of days in the office per week will be agreed with your line manager – dependent on business needs and reviewed periodically).

You will be required to have an incident role, making yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team 1

As part of the Installations/Radioactive Substances Regulation team, you will be shaping and improving environmental conditions in Hertfordshire and North London as well as Kent and South London. We face unique environmental problems every day as well as liaise with industry leaders and local communities.

Experience/skills required 1

The ideal candidate should have:

· Significant regulatory and/or industrial experience from a range of industries (process industries or radioactive substances) and/or significant experience in a technical, scientific, medical or civil engineering (e.g. landfill, civil or chemical) background/workplace.
· The ability to interpret legislation or required technical standards knowing how to comply with them.
· A willingness to lead on a specific sector guiding your colleagues on what needs to be delivered.
· Great influencing and communication skills.
· An ability to manage demands on time, work independently and take responsibility for sites and companies you will account manage for permit compliance.
· The ability to write reports, interpret data, and make risk-based decisions.
· The capacity to take initiative and use a continuous improvement approach would be welcomed.
· Computer literacy is essential, as is a full UK driving licence.
· Membership of a relevant professional body is beneficial.
