Marketing & Business Development

We have a well-established global M&BD team which supports the firm on a wide range of business development, client relationship management and reputational activities.

The team is divided into several key areas including Clients & Industries, covering Industry M&BD and Client Development; Practice M&BD; Communications, which comprises Public Relations, Brand, Design, Events, and Digital; Operations & Systems, which manage strategic global pitches and operations; and Strategic Initiatives, a team dedicated to managing and driving forward firm-wide profile building initiatives.

Financial Institutions and Insurance Sector (FIIS)

We use our in-depth knowledge of the latest innovations as well as the current and projected industry climate to advise our clients on how to best prepare and work in established and emerging markets. We assist in the design and rollout of new products, or assist in the acquisition of new businesses.

Our global, cross-practice FIIS team provide the legal insights our clients need to remain ahead of the curve in all jurisdictions in which they operate.. Whether it is assisting with structural reform, competition investigations, patenting new technology or entering new markets and developing new products, we offer full-service solutions to our clients at any stage of development and to meet any challenge.

Financial Services Practice Area

This role will also support the Financial Services Practice, part of the FIIS sector. This team advises clients across the Financial Services space, including advising retail and investment banks, FinTechs,/InsurTechs and disruptors, lenders, asset managers, intermediaries, infrastructure providers as well as industry bodies and regulators. With lawyers in London, Germany, and Italy, the practice includes a Banking, Lending and Payments team, and an Investments & Markets team, and brings a complete market view to the projects we work on.

Hogan Lovells Consulting: Financial Services

This role may also support the Financial Services Consulting team. Our regulatory consultants provide innovate and tailored solutions to our clients’ compliance, risk and operational challenges with the support of our market leading legal practice.

Role Overview

We need a capable, self-motivated and enthusiastic M&BD Adviser to support on M&BD activities for the Financial Institutions & Insurance sector and Financial Services practice (including support to the Hogan Lovells Consulting team). This interim role is cover for a Senior M&BD Advisor who is on secondment to our Hong Kong office.

This role has broad remit, supporting the FIIS M&BD team, across some important and fast-paced areas of law, and is integral in helping to drive forward our strategy, to ensure we:

maximise our opportunities to grow revenues from existing and prospective clients across the Financial Services practice and FIIS industry sectors;

raise the firm’s profile and position within our key markets; and

leverage and coordinate our people, knowledge and resources in an effective and efficient manner.

The role will encompass the full range of M&BD activities including: pitching, producing credentials and other marketing collateral; client targeting and cross-selling; client/sector and competitor analysis; and profile raising through marketing campaigns including events, communications directory submissions and awards, as well as BD evaluation and ROI reporting.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Specific responsibilities and tasks will include:

BD planning & analysis

Supporting the global sector and practice leads on the formulation and execution of time bound, objective-driven integrated campaigns and business development plans.

Working with partners to develop and implement BD activities in accordance with proposed plans and budgets.

Pitches and credentials

Managing pitches and supporting the pitch team (where appropriate) to prepare for presentations, including writing domestic and cross-border pitches, proposals and credentials whilst ensuring that best practice approach is applied.

Writing and producing other bespoke materials, including client presentations.

Collating and retaining information on the firm-wide Global Pitch System, monitoring success rates and making recommendations for improvements.

Undertaking and recording post pitch feedback.

Client targeting and development

Supporting on the development and delivery of client targeting initiatives and analysis.

Implementing client relationship management initiatives and client listening programmes.

Actively supporting our FIIS sector on delivery and execution of priority items from the sector business plan.

Profile raising

Coordinating and promoting best practice, integrated BD strategies including media relations, events, seminars, newsletters, white papers/thought leadership.

Liaising with the Events team to coordinate and oversee client events/seminars.

Working on the practice and FinTech directories as required. Includes ensuring deadlines are met, Partner teams are consulted and reviewing and updating practice area submissions for directories, legal supplements, etc.

Writing, editing and producing marketing communications including credentials statements, presentations, newsletters and website and and social media copy

Liaising and collaborating with other BD teams including Practice Groups, Industry teams, cross sell capabilities and credentials.

Proactively coordinating with PR to raise the profile of individual partners and propositions though press releases and deal announcements.

Building and managing relationships with key industry bodies in the sector.

Infrastructure and marketing systems

Collating information and maintaining matter information, pitches/proposals, credentials, intranet/web content, etc.

Maintaining and regularly assessing key BD information systems and library of materials including the pitch log, intranet, hoganlovells.com and credentials.

Liaising and working closely with the Knowledge Lawyers to leverage know how and identify appropriate communications and BD opportunities.

Wider BD projects

Contributing to the wider business development effort, which will include participating in specific firm-wide BD initiatives and projects as required.

Ad hoc support as required, particularly on firm wide projects.

Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location and services.

Person Specification

The Candidate

Essential

Previous experience of working in a marketing & business development role in a professional services firm.

Some exposure to industry sector marketing and business development.

A solid understanding of the commercial world and its drivers.

Desired

Prior knowledge and experience of working in a law firm and/or exposure to the financial services / insurance sectors would be advantageous.

Qualifications and Training

2.1 at degree level from a reputable institution.

Four to five years of relevant experience.
