The role: Junior Broker (Space Insurance)

Marsh Space Projects, part of Marsh Aviation & Aerospace is seeking a space insurance broker in the London office.

Space insurance is a highly specialised market within the insurance industry. Satellites and Launch Vehicles are insured for high values and policies are tailored to the individual risk profiles of the satellites and launch vehicles, in addition to the business requirements of the clients.

The Space Insurance broking team of Marsh handle a variety of insurance products related to satellites and launch vehicles, including:

  • Pre-launch insurance
  • Third Party Liability Insurance
  • Launch insurance
  • In-Orbit insurance

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Junior Broker to join Marsh Space Projects on a permanent basis in our London office.

This role would suit either an experienced insurance professional looking for a fresh opportunity, or perhaps someone with a genuine interest in Space, or a recent graduate within a specialism such as Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Law.

What can you expect:

  • The successful candidate will join a team with a combination of specialty market broking experience, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to handle technical and complex risks and good commercial awareness.
  • The successful candidates should have an eye for detail, meticulous approach and be able to contribute a tenacious approach to Insurer negotiations.
  • They will receive on the job training and support to study and pass their ACII qualifications.

We will rely on you to:

  • To work with Space team colleagues, both in our London office and in our other Marsh Space offices to develop placement strategies and engagement with clients.
  • To negotiate with Space Insurers to achieve optimal placement result.
  • Assist with the preparation of presentations to clients and manage the subsequent flow of underwriting information between client and insurers.
  • To contribute to discussions of insurance coverage designs for launch or in-orbit placements, to achieve the most suitable product for the client.
  • Assist in the preparation of new business tender reports where required.
  • To handle correspondence with Insurers and maintain a placement file and placement spreadsheet for accounts worked on.
  • Production of ad-hoc information in response to specific client and colleague requests.

What you need to have:

  • Previous experience of working in the Aviation, Aerospace or space markets would be an advantage.
  • Attention to detail and evidence of being able to work with technically complex risks.
  • Competent use of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication skills in terms of both written (report and presentation writing) and verbal (one to one and presenting to a group) skills.
  • Any foreign language skills would be an advantage but not essential.

What makes you stand out:

  • Space / Commercial Insurance experience
  • A legal, technical, or engineering background may be useful but not essential.
  • Previous experience of working in the Aviation, Aerospace or space markets would be an advantage.
