Your role:

We are looking for a Lead Analyst to join the GMCA research team, working on our economy research programme. Key areas of responsibility include the analysis of data on the structure and performance of the Greater Manchester economy, wider research into how the economy connects with housing, culture, environment and other policy areas and evaluation of economic policy interventions.

Your work will help us deliver against the and the which outlines how we plan to shape the economy to provide a fairer, greener and more prosperous city region for our residents.

Your work will be varied but is likely to include:

  • A programme of research to support the implementation of Greater Manchester’s which aims to increase research and development investment in the city region
  • Work on the evaluation of the which delivers leadership and management support to businesses across Greater Manchester
  • Data gathering and analysis to support the monitoring of the
  • Research to support the work of the in building a thriving social economy across Greater Manchester
  • A range of bespoke research commissions relating to business demography, trade and investment, innovation, sector trends and business support

You will be working with a range of quantitative data, primarily from official sources such as the Office for National Statistics, but also including local data sources.

Alongside the economy specific focus of this role, as a member of the wider GMCA Research Team, you will join a team of Analysts, Lead Analysts and Principals with opportunities to collaborate on cross-sector projects.

About you:

We are looking for someone who can show us they:

  • Have experience of undertaking research and analysis, including delivering research projects
  • Have strong analytical capabilities, with evidence of working with large, complex quantitative data sets. Experience of working with economic and business datasets is beneficial, but not essential.
  • May have knowledge of, or experience with qualitative data (including but not limited to workshops and interviews)
  • Have excellent writing and presentation abilities (particularly the ability to present technical material to non-technical audiences)
  • Have strong critical thinking skills to help shape research questions and draw out key findings from analysis
  • May have experience of undertaking process or impact evaluations of projects
  • Have strong interpersonal skills to work with various stakeholders
  • Have an awareness of the political landscape both in GM and nationally and good knowledge of current debates on key economic issues
  • Have an eagerness to learn new techniques and approaches – you are self-motivated and able to use your own initiative to take work forward.
