Lecturer A in Veterinary Education and Training at University of Surrey
Job Description
The University of Surrey’s School of Veterinary Medicine was the first school in the UK with a fully distributed teaching model. It aims to inspire and educate veterinary professionals who will advance veterinary medicine to meet the needs of a changing world. We embrace the traditional values of professionalism, scientific curiosity and clinical excellence, while developing graduates with broad horizons. Our research aims to advance knowledge in all aspects of veterinary medicine and education.
The role
We have a 12-month maternity cover position available for an RCVS-registered veterinary surgeon (MRCVS) with an enthusiasm for sharing their knowledge and experience with veterinary undergraduates. This role will support practice-based trained clinical mentors in the delivery of workplace-based clinical education, fostering the individual development, progression and evaluation of final year students toward attainment of day-one competences. Through regular and frequent practice visits to meet with practice clinical mentors and through the provision of one-to-one feedback and coaching of students, the appointee will form strong working relationships with a group of practice partners, assuring the quality of the clinical educational experience.
About you
We are looking for someone with an intuitive passion for teaching. Prior academic experience is not a prerequisite, but some teaching experience is beneficial. The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of equine first opinion practice. Due to the nature of the role and the geographical locale of our partner practices, this post would ideally suit someone based in the South East of England. There would be a requirement to be onsite in Guildford each week to teach and the remaining time would be used to travel to our partner practices.
Enthusiasm, adaptability and creativity are essential, alongside excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. We are proud to support flexible working and are happy to consider applications from candidates interested in working on a part-time basis.
What we can offer
In return we offer a generous salary with a 10% salary uplift for MRCVS registered applicants, CPD budget, pension, relocation assistance where appropriate, flexible working options including job share, access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.
Further information
Please apply by uploading a CV and a cover letter evidencing your suitability against the essential criteria required for this role as outlined in the person specification. You will also be asked some brief questions to help us understand your suitability for the position.
Interviews are scheduled to be held online.

Induction Commitment
We wish to create the conditions for success for our new starters in the Vet School, by facilitating their growth and development within our institution. All new starters who are on a local/Guildford contract are expected to be physically present on campus for 80% minimum of their working week during their initial four to six months of employment (the duration will vary depending on individual role).
