Lecturer in Automotive Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University

March 27, 2024

Job Description

The job

We are seeking an inspirational and driven Lecturer in Automotive Engineering to enhance our teaching and learning in the Future Transportation Subject Group.

You will have a subject specialism related to automotive engineering, and a commitment to delivering an outstanding student experience. In addition to excellence in teaching and learning, you will have a well-established record of scholarship in pedagogy, research and innovation, or external and professional engagement.

As a Lecturer, you will combine technical expertise in your discipline with the enthusiasm and ability to pass on your knowledge and experience by creating and delivering high-quality learning, teaching and assessment.

As a university with a focus on applied learning and positive outcomes for our graduates, if you can bring relevant industrial experience to the role, this would be particularly welcome.

We recognize that automotive engineering is a broad discipline and would welcome your application regardless of your field of specialism.  At this time, we are also especially keen to hear from applicants with expertise in areas including hybrid/electric drive, vehicle electrical systems and electronics, vehicle control systems, thermodynamics and internal combustion engine technology.

While you will be expected to deliver on the Automotive Engineering course, there may be a need and opportunity for you to share your expertise more widely across the Subject Group.

Following an internal restructuring, the Future Transportation Subject Group has been formed within the Department of Engineering and Mathematics, to bring together academic staff and students across our established disciplines of Aerospace, Automotive and Railway Engineering.  Our staff are actively engaged in research, consultancy and knowledge transfer activities.

The creation of the Future Transportation Subject Group has allowed us to focus on the challenges and opportunities in the transportation sector, such as reducing emissions, developing autonomous vehicles, harnessing the benefits of increased connectivity and embracing artificial intelligence.  As a Lecturer, you will play a part in helping the next generation of engineers reap the benefit of these developments and make a positive contribution to society.
