This position provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of the newly launched BSc Bioveterinary Sciences degree programme (involving teaching, administration and outreach), and to develop internationally competitive research in the area of animal science with an emphasis on animal health, welfare and/or behaviour. You will work as part of a dynamic team to develop and deliver lectures, seminars and practical sessions in subjects such as physiology, veterinary microbiology and animal nutrition within the undergraduate programme. You will also be the Academic Tutor for some undergraduate students and may co-supervise postgraduate research students. You may also contribute to the research agenda of the Department of Animal Sciences, and establish your own research portfolio. We would particularly welcome applicants with an interest within the broad area of animal welfare, behaviour and/or veterinary science (particularly of livestock), or in the area of sustainable production of animal-derived foods. The Department of Animal Sciences sits within the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development (SAPD), which has a global outlook and an international reputation for both education and research and was recently ranked 20th in the World QS subject rankings for Agriculture and Forestry. Within the University of Reading, SAPD has strong research links with the Schools of Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy, Biological Sciences, and Geography & Environmental Science, and has an established reputation for inter-disciplinary research. You will have:
- A PhD in a relevant discipline (animal or veterinary science) AND/OR be a qualified veterinarian, AND/OR have equivalent education and professional experience.
- The ability to conduct high quality teaching, including excellent presentation and communication skills.
- The ability and desire to undertake high quality research in animal health/welfare/behaviour, in collaboration with others at Reading, augmenting existing research strengths in sustainable animal production.
- A broad grounding in animal science (particularly health or welfare or behaviour).
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
- An enthusiastic, collaborative and positive attitude, and be co-operative when working with colleagues to deliver effective teaching and research
