The role 

NU London wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Design. You will teach the course Experience & Interaction, a Level 4 (1st year undergraduate) course which examines interactive experience through the lens of speculative design, tactical media, contemporary art, and social scenarios.

In this role, you will be responsible for conducting lectures, facilitating technical workshops, and evaluating student coursework. The ability to communicate complex concepts and provide constructive feedback is essential.  We wish to appoint a specialist in User Experience Design and you should have a comprehensive understanding of the current landscape of UX design and be updated on industry trends and best practices. Preference may be given to candidates with active interests in the relationship of Design to one or more of the following areas: commercial/industrial activity and student employability..

Core duties will include teaching a double-taught course (2 x 3h per week, each session taught twice to two different groups) for a semester of 12 weeks. The teaching should be interactive and engaging, rather than traditional lecturing. In addition, you will mark assessments for up to 60 students, hold office hours, and maintain a course VLE site in accordance with University policies and student needs. Attendance at regular team and faculty meetings is desirable where possible. The role requires availability for teaching on two separate days of the week. All teaching in this subject area takes place on campus in central London.

Person Specification

To excel in this role, you will have the following skills and experience, or transferable skills.

  • Master’s degree, or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area (essential).
  • PhD completed, or near completion (all but dissertation), or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area (desirable).
  • FHEA status, or equivalent, achieved or expected (desirable).
  • Demonstrate, through evidence, excellent ability to be adaptable, innovative, and inclusive in teaching, including teaching to diverse audiences.
  • Teaching competency in User Interface Design at Level 4 (1st year undergraduate international exchange students).

We are hoping to move to a timetable where Wednesday afternoon’s are available for student clubs/ activities and staff CPD.
